Commissions
Orientation of portraits will be left to my discretion unless otherwise specified. Please be aware when selecting your photo that your painting will only be as good as the photo you provide. Sharp, close up photos taken in natural light with not too much shadow make for the best references.
Please note prices on the website are for the specific number of subjects with either no background or minimal background if the portrait lends itself to it. If you require me to paint any more background than specified or would like me to paint any more than what is on the photograph you provide for said commission, then please contact me before purchasing so we can arrange a separate invoice as this will include an extra charge due to increase in time required to render more complex compositions as well as complex backgrounds.
It is advised to contact me before purchasing your commission so we can discuss your needs and agree on the work that will be done. In the case a client purchases a commission without prior contact I reserve the right to cancel and refund the order if photo quality is deemed unsuitable, or if the commission works required cannot be completed to the clients specified requirements.
The time it can take for a commission to be completed before dispatch will vary depending on the size and complexity of the piece. This time can range from 1-4 weeks or more for extremely large or complex commissions. Please be aware that I may also have a number of portraits I am working on at any one time or a waiting list during peak seasons such as Christmas, it is advised to purchase early on during these times to guarantee your commission will arrive on time and without any postal delays. Please contact me to let me know if you need your commission dispatched before a specific date so i can push your commission ahead of others that are less urgent.
Once your commission has started I will contact you with a photo of the pencil sketch stage (please note you will not get a sketch with my miniature range), at this point you will be asked if you are happy for me to proceed with paint. This is the opportunity for you to discuss any changes you would like made if any, and to also let me know if you would like updates along the way during the painting stage.
Due to the nature of the materials I use, once the paint has been applied this makes it very tricky to make any changes without risking the overall quality of the piece and the paper it is painted on. Please note that once the painting stage has commenced I can no longer make any changes to the composition, size, layout, placement, shape, or size of facial and body features. However please be assured that I will do my upmost best to make adjustments where able to do so if needed. Any more than three fine adjustments to the painting will incur extra charges of £10 per tweak.
When commissioning artwork the client is paying for the time, materials and expertise to create the work. Due to my artistic approach and the physical properties of media used, the outcome of the final piece will likely move slightly beyond that of the reference photo to create something that will not be a carbon copy of the photo provided, although a true likeness will remain (please see my galleries for examples of my style of work). I will use my artistic license when deciding on tonal values, textures, light, shades and hues. In the unlikely event a client is unhappy with the commission and should not want to continue at the sketch stage I will offer a 50% refund.
Once the commission has been completed a proof will be sent to the client via email for approval before packaging up and posting. Once the client has approved the final piece this will be sent 1st class signed for via Royal Mail, or Special delivery if specified in the listing. Once this has been approved and posted I can no longer offer any alterations and the commission is considered complete.
